Sound booster is overall loudness. Bass booster is the bottom of the spectrum. If you wanted everything louder, use Sound booster. A comparison with a system-wide project sits on Equalizer vs Equalizer APO. Windows 11 install sits on Equalizer Windows 11.
This is FxSound. AGPL-3.0. We did not make it. Official files live on GitHub Releases. The repo is fxsound2/fxsound-app. This site does not host the installer. Skip Softonic, CNET, and unofficial wrappers.
The button on this page goes to Install on the home page. Trust notes sit on Equalizer download safe.
Install a bass booster on Windows
Paste this into Windows Terminal or Command Prompt:
winget install -e --id FxSound.FxSoundCopy
If winget is missing, install App Installer from Microsoft, then paste again. Official Microsoft links only. GitHub Releases is the other path. For most PCs take fxsound_setup.exe. ARM: fxsound_setup.arm64.exe. Live tag observed: V1.2.13.0. File list sits on Equalizer releases. LICENSE sits on Equalizer GitHub.
How to use a bass booster
- Install FxSound with the command on this page, or
fxsound_setup.exefrom GitHub Releases. - Open FxSound. You should get a window, not a browser tab.
- Play a track you already know, in the player you already use. Keep Windows volume where you normally keep it.
- Raise the low bands. If the app lists a preset that is clearly more bass, you can start there. We will not invent a preset name. Listen. The kick and the bass line should sit forward. Voices should still be words.
- If the speaker rattles or the room booms, turn the low end back. A bass booster that hurts the cabinet is too far.
That list is the bass booster path. You are not replacing the player. You are shaping what leaves this PC.
Laptop speakers versus a real sub
A laptop cannot grow a subwoofer. A bass booster on tiny speakers adds boom and mud. Headphones and a real sub show the low end you actually added. Test on the device you will use. Do not judge a bass booster on a tablet speaker and then blame the install.
Cheap Bluetooth speakers clip when the low end is hot. If you hear crackle, lower the bass, not only Windows volume. Crackle is the speaker. Distortion in the recording was already there. A bass booster makes both easier to hear.
Neighbors hear bass through floors. Late night, use headphones. The program will not know the hour.
Voices, mud, and a little less
Too much low end hides speech. Podcasts and calls need less bass, not more. If a voice turns into a chest, cut the low bands. A bass booster is a choice per job, not a switch you leave pinned.
A small cut above the boom can make the boost readable. You do not need a lecture on Hertz. If it sounds like a blanket, the low end is covering the middle. Ease it.
Save nothing yet. Listen for a whole chorus. Then decide. A five-second test lies.
What this bass booster will not do
It will not replace a broken speaker.
It will not make laptop speakers into a club. It will not fix a file that was recorded thin. It will add low end to what you already have.
Hearing and cabinets
Loud low end is still loud. If your ears ring, stop. Turn Windows volume down before you add more bass, not after. We will not invent a safe decibel. You live in the room.
A rattling desk is the desk. Move the speaker. A rattling driver is the driver. Turn the bass down.
Low end is not loudness
Bass booster is the kick and the rumble. Sound booster is the whole mix. You can raise both in the same app. You should not treat them as the same slider. If a quiet clip is quiet because the file is quiet, bass will not save it. Use Sound booster for overall level. Use this page when the low end is missing and the rest is already loud enough.
Small laptop speakers lie. They cannot move much air. A big bass boost rattles the chassis and still sounds thin. Headphones tell you more. A cheap Bluetooth speaker tells you less. If the desk buzzes, turn the low end down before you blame the file.
Voice sits above kick. Too much low end on a podcast makes the host boom. Too little on a track with a real kick makes the mix feel small. Play a file you already know. Move one band. Wait a second. Then decide. Do not stack three bass moves because the first one felt subtle.
Bluetooth, HDMI, and the wrong device
The app has to sit on the output you hear. HDMI to a TV, USB headphones, and onboard speakers are different devices. If you boost bass on onboard and listen on HDMI, nothing happened. Switch. Then listen. Bluetooth can compress the low end. A wired test is the honest check.
Movies have LFE tracks. This page is not a movie article. If a film sounds thin, that can be the mix, the night mode on the TV, or the laptop. Try one change. Stop if it rattles. Do not hunt a second installer named bass.
When to stop
If the kick turns into a thud that hides the vocal, you went too far. If Windows volume is already high, add less in the app. Leave a way to turn it down. A ringing ear is a stop, not a setting. We will not invent a safe decibel.
Uninstall is the GitHub app uninstall, or Apps in Windows. Quitting the window is not uninstall. If you only wanted to try the low end for a night, quit first. If you want it gone, uninstall. Fetch again from GitHub Releases or winget, not from a wrapper.
GitHub Releases is the file host. Winget is the other honest path. The command is winget install -e --id FxSound.FxSound. Match fxsound_setup.exe on x64 and fxsound_setup.arm64.exe on ARM. Read the live tag on the release page. We last saw V1.2.13.0. Skip a renamed setup from search.
How do I use a bass booster?
Install with winget install -e --id FxSound.FxSound or fxsound_setup.exe. Open it. Play a track you know. Raise the low end. Stop if it rattles. The install pointer is Install on the home page.
Is a bass booster the same as a sound booster?
No. Bass booster is the low end. Sound booster is overall loudness. They can both live on this install. They are different articles.
Why does my bass booster sound muddy?
Too much low end on small speakers, or a voice sitting in the boom. Turn it back. Test on headphones if you have them.
Did you make this bass booster?
No. The FxSound team publishes FxSound under AGPL-3.0. Official files live on GitHub Releases. This site only points at that page. We do not host the installer.
